Delphine Hogarth is a Franco-Anglo artist born in Le Chesnay, France, in 1976. She studied History of Art in Bristol, followed by an Arts Foundation Course in Paris in 1998-2000. She considers herself to be both French and British, living and working between Paris and London.
“My work focuses on the themes of identity, the ambiguity of feelings, how we need to root and the body. I am passionate about the processes that are at the origin of a story. A discovery, a behaviour, my paintings allow me to share these thoughts with people and make these existential questions visible.
Removing the clutter of everyday life, my paintings explore moments of stillness and peace lived indoors.”
Delphine’s artistic process is explorational, testing ideas and embracing instinct. She says of the way she works:
“As a self taught artist, I have an instinctive approach where I work several paintings at the same time to first loose myself and then meticulously order my ideas on different surfaces and sizes.
Today I use these tamed steps to let myself be surprised by an unexpected detail that will definitely build the canvas”.
In 2024, Delphine exhibited a solo show entitled ‘Delphine Hogarth: Ten’ at the Thackeray Gallery (13 – 29 February).
The Thackeray Gallery has represented Delphine Hogarth since 2014.
